André de RidderAndré de Ridder, RNCM Junior Fellow in Conducting, is German, and studied in Berlin, Vienna and London prior to joining the College. His teachers included Leopold Hager and, at the Royal Academy of Music, Colin Metters and Sir Colin Davis. He has also been strongly influenced by masterclasses with Myung-Whun Chung and Mark Wigglesworth.In 1994 André made his debut with the Ensemble Modern, and at the Philharmonic Hall, Berlin, with the Sinfonietta 44, whose principal conductor he was from 1994-96. He is the founder of the London-based ensemble Kantak, which appeared at St John's Smith Square, at the Spitalfields Festival and at the BBC Proms in 1999. Kantak's future engagements include a return to the Spitalfields Festival and a visit to the Flanders Festival in Brussels in September. André conducted Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra in Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra April 2000 concert and will conduct Strauss and Mahler in the February 2001 concert. |
